Expanding Mental Health Care for All Ages
In Glenwood, Minnesota, Glacial Ridge Health System is taking significant steps to improve mental health care accessibility with the introduction of two dedicated programs aimed at various age groups. This development not only reflects a commitment to treating mental health issues but also addresses the growing demand in our communities for supportive mental health services.
Introducing Counseling Services for Individuals 6+
Among the new offerings at the Glenwood Medical Center is enhanced counseling and behavioral health services. Three accomplished therapists—Karla Sundheim, Jennifer Gullickson, and Heather Gerlach—are now available to assist children (ages 6 and up), teens, and adults facing challenges such as anxiety, depression, and trauma. The service encompasses individual, couples, and family therapy, showcasing the center's tailored approach to community needs.
Rachel Wagner, the Clinic Manager, underscores the importance of this initiative by stating, "By adding counseling services, we’re increasing access to mental health care for children, teens, and adults in our community." Such accessibility is vital in fostering healthier generations as early intervention in mental health can lead to improved outcomes later in life.
Senior Life Solutions: Tailored Support for Elders
Addressing the unique challenges faced by seniors, Glacial Ridge also introduces the Senior Life Solutions (SLS) program. Aimed at individuals aged 65 and older, SLS provides a supportive environment for addressing mental health issues such as loneliness and anxiety. This program, led by therapist Lindsey Majerus, offers a blend of group therapy, individual sessions, and medical support, creating a comprehensive approach to mental wellness.
"Older adults often face challenges that can go unnoticed, from loneliness to major life transitions," notes Kelly Jones, RN and Program Director for SLS. Recognizing that emotional and physical health are interlinked, this initiative enables seniors to develop necessary coping skills and foster connections, enhancing their overall quality of life.
Building Community Resilience
The launch of these programs proves Glacial Ridge Health System's dedication to addressing mental health disparities across different age groups. By focusing on both mental and physical well-being, Glacial Ridge plays a pivotal role in helping community members thrive, build resilience, and improve their quality of life.
For anyone concerned about mental health, these services present an opportunity to seek support, whether for themselves or a loved one. Mental health care is not just a luxury; it's an essential part of a healthy life.
